Autumn 2021

The turn of Summer to Autumn brings on beautiful misty mornings and crisp, sunny days at Castle Farm. Our orchards are laden heavy with apples, dragging down the branches and surprising passersby as they drop. Soon they’ll be ripe enough for us to harvest! With our orchards in full fruit, it also signals it’s all hands to deck for the start of our potato harvest.

Potatoes Potatoes Potatoes

This year, around 1800 tonnes of potatoes were harvested over just two and a half weeks. That’s about 6 acres harvested every. single. day.

Our tractor teams work seamlessly together throughout the day from the harvesting to the hauling to arriving at the farm. Once at Castle Farm, our potatoes are all hand graded to ensure quality and check their size. This year, we’ve got our usual delicious varieties of Saphire, Laura and Manhattan.

Out of 1800 tonnes, 100 have gone to stock feed for our cattle over winter. The rest are winging their way to your dinner plates. Get yours by visiting our farm between 8am to 5pm – £5 for 25kg.

We were also lucky that Mark Crossland, of Juicy Agriculture, returned to shoot some more awesome drone footage of this year’s harvest. Check out his video and pictures of the Castle Farm team in action!
